J. A. Coles School On Line

From the Principal

November 2007

Parent Visitation Day - Tuesday, November 6, is an opportunity for you to see part of a regular school day. You are welcome to visit your child’s current class during the scheduled time blocks. We appreciate your understanding that we cannot have cell phone calls, small children, or beverages in the classrooms. It is also important to move through the hallways quietly as it is a regular school day for students. We will have sign-in books and visitors’ badges in each lobby. From 8:45 - 11:45 a.m. you will be able to enter and depart through three main doors (the 3/4 door on Aberdeen, the K/1 lobby, and the main door). The schedule is as follows:

8:50 - 9:20 Kindergarten (morning)
9:15 - 9:45 First Grade
9:50-10:50 All First Grade parents
Developing Strategic Readers
10:00 - 10:30 Second Grade
10:30 - 11:00 Fourth Grade
11:15 - 11:45 Third Grade
1:00 - 1:30 Kindergarten (afternoon)

Progress Reports - Progress reports will be distributed on Tuesday, November 13th. Please reinforce to your children that progress reports are private and should be opened at home.

Parent-Teacher Conferences - November 14 Through November 20 (Single Session Week) - Parent-Teacher Conferences provide an opportunity for parents and teachers to discuss your child’s progress in school. Specific areas of strength and needs will be discussed, as well as your perceptions of your child. This shared communication clarifies roles and expectations for school, home and child.

A confirmation of your date and time of conference will be sent home shortly.

In order for you to benefit from the time allotted to you, it is important that you arrive on time for your scheduled conference. Please use the front door to enter the building at all times. Making other arrangements for your children during conference time will allow you to make the most of this time with the teacher.

In order for teachers to schedule individual conferences for every parent, we will again have single session days. Remember the 12:40 p.m. dismissal time. No lunch will be served. Please send a snack. Buses will leave at the 12:40 p.m. time and parents should plan on approximately the same length of time as a normal day for their arrival home.

Cool and Cold Days - Layered clothing is helpful. Some classrooms are warmer than others. Children must also be prepared to go outside for recess whenever possible. This will ensure that our children will be comfortable outside, and that they will enjoy the fresh air and be rejuvenated for the afternoon session.

Lunch Hour – Lunch hour is an extremely busy time of day. If you need to pick your child up near this time, please pick him/her up before lunch begins (11:50) and return your child when lunch has ended (12:50) .
