J. A. Coles School On Line

From the Principal

January 2008

SPECIAL THANKS
I’d like to thank all of you for your support of our school and the PTA. Through your generous contributions and enthusiastic commitment, we are able to enrich the Coles School experience for all.

A special thanks to all who responded to the e-mail regarding the Coles Kids Care Holiday Gift Project for children in need here at Coles. Your compassion and generous spirit contributed $2,800 in gift cards for Coles families with financial hardships. The families have shared their deep gratitude for your support and kindness.

HOME PHONE NUMBERS, ADDRESSES, AND E-MAIL
If for some reason your home phone, address or emergency contacts have changed, please contact the office so that the corrections can be made. The e-mail addresses on the blue contact forms are used for individual communications.

PLEASE SAVE THESE DATES!
School will be closed Monday, January 21, 2008.

The Coles PTA will meet on Wednesday, January 16. A presentation by Dr. Evans will highlight instruction, assessment, and the state-mandated NJASK tests and scores.

ABSENCES
Please remember when you call to report an absence or tardiness, you must give a reason. If no reason is given, your child will be marked with an unexcused absence or tardiness. All absences and late arrivals need to be reported no later than 8:30 a.m. This can be done 24 hours a day by calling 757-7555 and accessing the student attendance message box by pressing ā€œ3ā€.

IN CASE OF ILLNESS....
Thank you for keeping your children home when there are symptoms of illness. Please keep your child home until an elevated temperature has returned to normal for at least 24 hours WITHOUT the need for fever-reducing medications. Children returning too soon often appear in the Nurse's Office, they are unable to function in the classroom, and expose others to illness.

WINTER DAYS
Layered clothing is helpful. Some classrooms are warmer than others. Children must also be prepared to go outside for recess whenever possible. This will ensure that our children will be comfortable outside, and that they will enjoy the fresh air and be rejuvenated for the afternoon session.
