J. A. Coles School On Line

From the Principal

SPECIAL THANKS-  A special thanks to all who responded to the e-mail regarding the Coles Kids Care Holiday Gift Project for children in need here at Coles.  Your compassion and generous spirit contributed approximately $1,900 in gift cards for Coles families with financial hardships.  The families have shared their deep gratitude for your support and kindness.

UPDATING YOUR CONTACT INFORMATION AND DISMISSAL APPROVAL TO TAKE YOUR CHILD HOME FROM SCHOOL --
If for some reason your home phone, address or emergency contacts have changed, please contact the office so that the corrections can be made.  The e-mail addresses on the blue contact forms are used for individual communications.

CAR POOLS:  Please make sure your child’s teacher has a complete list of adults authorized to take your child home.  This information is then kept in the office and used as reference when needed.

SCHOOL LUNCH AND MILK ORDERS  - The district has moved to a centralized system for lunch and milk orders.  Please continue to send student menus and payment to your child’s teacher according to the dates on the January calendar (see other side).  Your lunch and milk envelopes will not be opened at Coles and will be forwarded to a district office for processing.  Please make sure important notes needed at Coles are sent separately.

PLEASE SAVE THESE DATES!    School will be closed Monday, January 19, 2009.

The Coles PTA will meet on Wednesday, January 21.  A presentation will highlight www.renzullilearning.com and its home applications.  Dr. Evans will also share information regarding the NJASK and NJPASS assessments used in grades 2-4.

ABSENCES - Please remember when you call to report an absence or tardiness, you must give a reason. All absences and late arrivals need to be reported no later than 8:30 a.m.  This can be done 24 hours a day by calling 757-7555 and accessing the student attendance message box by pressing “3”.

IN CASE OF ILLNESS -  Thank you for keeping your children home when there are symptoms of illness.  Please keep your child home until an elevated temperature has returned to normal for at least 24 hours WITHOUT the need for fever-reducing medications.  Children returning too soon often appear in the Nurse's Office, they are unable to function in the classroom, and expose others to illness.

WINTER DAYS - Layered clothing is helpful.  Some classrooms are warmer than others.  Children must also be prepared to go outside for recess whenever possible.  This will ensure that children will be comfortable outside, and that they will enjoy the fresh air and be rejuvenated for the afternoon session.
