From the Principal |
Please check the website regularly (www.spfk12.org/coles). We will continue to update it throughout the summer. General supply lists will be posted by the end of June.
At this time of year, a question that many parents have on their minds is their childs teacher assignment for the next school year. Many factors are taken into consideration in making each individual assignment for the next year. The decision about placement will follow the general philosophy of the elementary schools in the district. We are fortunate to have an excellent teaching staff who will make a careful decision about next years placement for each student after consulting with other staff members. When appropriate, this includes teachers for basic skills, Reading Recovery, resource center and special subject areas. Parental input is considered, but specific teacher requests are not accepted. All initial recommendations from teachers are forwarded to the principal, and all assignments are finalized by the principal. Each childs assignment will be shared with students and parents the fourth week of August.
All elementary schools in the district follow this procedure of notification. This procedure enables each principal to better provide for balanced classes and to maximize the flexibility of class groupings with new entrants and students who move over the summer.
Each year, the best enrollment information is used to determine the number of class sections at each grade level for the new school year. Based on current available information the expected number of class sections for each grade level has now been determined for the 2005-2006 school year. Since student enrollment can change our enrollment at each grade level, we will be constantly monitored during the remainder of this school year and throughout the summer months. In the event of a dramatic change in student enrollment, at any one grade level, the number of grade level sections is always subject to change. If you know of any children who have not enrolled, we would appreciate hearing from them as soon as possible.
Please discuss the importance of maintaining a learning environment in school through the end of the school year with your child. Your support in encouraging school behavior through June 23 is appreciated!
You will receive a letter the fourth week of August providing you with opening of school information. This will include class and room assignment. The building will be closed for cleaning during the summer.
If you have plans to relocate out of the Coles School area, please notify the school office as soon as possible. This will assist us in forwarding your childs records and in planning the classes for next year.
A very special thank you to the PTA for subsidizing the field trips for our children. Each child received a $5.00 subsidy. In Kindergarten, second and third grades, in-school field trips were held and paid for with these PTA funds. This has been much appreciated!
