Parent Education Policy Review

The middle school child has special developmental needs, that are unique to their age group, as they mature physically, mentally, socially and emotionally. Considering the many challenges they must face as they move into adolescence, a quality comprehensive health and physical education program offers a safe environment to explore, shape and define themselves into healthy, responsible, mature and caring people.

Our curriculum model is based on Sport Education, which has been growing in popularity in recent years. It is a student-centered approach to learning that encourages good sporting behaviors and values, while accommodating individual differences in knowledge and skill. No matter what the skill level, no matter how smart, how fast or how big an individual is, everyone's participation is emphasized for success. Each individual will have the opportunity to participate in various roles that contribute to the success of their team (Captain, Assistant, Trainer, Equipment Manager, Player). These roles encourage student responsibility and ownership in the program, they also help to develop leadership and fellowship skills. Ultimately, the team's success is influenced by each member's contributions. Sport education helps to develop a class of competent, literate and enthusiastic sports participants, regardless of their athletic ability.
