Teaches students sportsmanship.

Acts which indicate fair play, proper conduct,
the ability to both win and lose properly:

          • Not questioning the referee
          • Hand slap at the end of the game
          • No pushing/tripping/unnecessary rough play
          • Helping up an injured/fallen player

Definition of Associated Terms

Focus Points - Points earned through proper execution of the "focus skill/concept" introduced each day, which are recognized by the recorder/scorekeeper and or referee/teacher.

Sportsmanship Points - Points earned for outstanding and genuine acts of sportsmanship. (i.e. handshake at end of game, helping an injured player, being honest about a questionable call) recognized by the recorder/scorekeeper and/or referee/teacher.

- Sportsmanship points may also be deducted by the recorder/scorekeeper and or referee/teacher for unsportsmanlike conduct. (i.e. foul language, put downs, disrespect for teammates, teacher or equipment)

Goal Points - The number of goals/baskets/touchdowns/runs/points scored in that day's game

Wins - Total wins during a tournament, based solely on actual goals scored. It does not include Focus or Sportsmanship points.

Overall Points - Total amount of points for the day (Sportsmanship Points + Focus Points + Goal Points = Overall Points)

 


Student Responsibilities and Roles

Captain

    • Assign & record player positions
    • Inform team of field location & opponent
    • Lead team meetings in discussion of strengths, weaknesses and strategies
    • "Shoot it out" for kick offs, etc. to start the game
    • Follow team player responsibilities
    • Report with folder to teacher after score sheet has been recorded

Assistant

    • Assists the captain in their duties & takes over when they are absent.

Trainer

    • Leads warm up and skill drills prior to the start of the game

Equipment Manager

    • Obtains and returns all equipment at the end of class

Recorder

    • Legibly records and total points using tally marks (i.e.IIII )

Player Responsibilities

    • Demonstrate appropriate personal, physical and communication skills.
    • Identify strengths, weaknesses and use team strategies to compensate for them.
    • Follow your captain's directions
    • Set up quickly on areas of play
    • Line up after game for an after-game hand slap
