SPF PTA Council promotes 10 standing committees that serve children in all 8 public schools and, at times, in St. Bartholomew Inter-Parochial School as well.

Each committee has a chairperson and/ or co-chairperson. Other members of the committee are the chairperson(s) from individual school.

The district chairperson and/or co-chairperson are appointed by the President and approved by the Council at its October meeting to serve a term of one year. No chairperson can serve more than two years consecutively.

The chairperson and/ or co-chairperson attends all Council meetings and reports all committee recommendations and actions to Council. All committees meet on a regular basis with one week's notice from the chairperson for such meetings. Prior to the close of the school year, each committee has a joint committee meeting for incoming and outgoing members to facilitate a smooth transition of responsibilities.

All district committee actions are approved and sponsored by Council.

Any committee that requires funds from individual PTAs collects and administers such monies by the PTA Council Treasurer with the exception of the YPT that administers its own funds. All committee expenditures are accounted for by the committee chairperson to the Council Treasurer via an itemized report prior to the May Council meeting.

YPT representatives plan a series of professional performances for winter weekends, to offer our youngest school children excellent entertainment (dance, musicals, puppetry, dramatized stories, magicians, musicians) at moderate prices. It was first introduced into our community through the PTA Council of Scotch Plains-Fanwood in 1974-75.  For over 25 years, this non-profit organization made up of parent volunteers from five elementary schools have brought affordable live performances to children in their own backyards.

The Young People's Theatre (YPT) committee consists of a chairperson and/ or co-chairperson, treasurer and three YPT representatives from each participating school. The chairperson and treasurer are elected by the YPT committee in May and approved by the Council at the October meeting. The term of office for the chairperson and treasurer is for one year and no officer may serve for more than two consecutive terms. If the committee is unable to elect a chairperson and/ or treasurer, the President of Council appoints these positions.

The President of individual schools appoints three representatives to serve on a rotating basis.

YPT submits its budget for the coming year and year-to-date treasurer's report to the Council President by April 30. At the May Council meeting, the budget is submitted for approval and the year-to-date financial report is presented. YPT's books are given to the Council Treasurer by June 30 for audit which is completed and reported on at the September Council meeting.
