The purpose of the PTA Council Fact Finding
Committee is to investigate and bring to PTA's attention educational
concerns appropriate to our communities. The committee will be
convened by the President only when an issue is approved first by
the Presidents' Committee and then by the general consent of the
Council. If an issue or charge is so approved, the President
appoints a chairperson and each school PTA President appoints a
representative to this committee. Members of this committee or
member's spouse should NOT be either a member of the school board, an
elected official of the Fanwood and Scotch Plains Town Councils or
an elected local PTA Officer (Presidents, Council Officers etc.). A committee member may not serve more
than two consecutive years. The committee prepares a majority &
minority report for the Council in case it has any recommendations.
In addition, this information is sent along with any fact sheets to
PTA Presidents who will disseminate the information as the situation
dictates. The Committee can not take any action or lobby, but
reports its findings to the Council.
An example of a Fact Finding Committee in the past
was to determine the extent to which
local PTAs can and should be involved in negotiations between the
Board of Education and the unions representing district staff.
