Our Jump Start Pre-Kindergarten program is
designed to provide instructional assistance for
children who demonstrate readiness needs.
Pre-schoolers selected for the program will attend
one of the district's five elementary schools.
To be considered for the program, a child would
be eligible the year before kindergarten entrance
and must be four years old on or before October
l.
All students will be screened by specially
trained staff who evaluate such areas as language
abilities and large and small muscle
development.
This program is offered for children who could
benefit from educational support before entering
our regular kindergarten program. It is designed to
nurture and foster children's emotional, social,
and intellectual growth in order to enhance their
ability to function prior to kindergarten
entrance.
Certified teachers instruct a small class of
children for a half-day session. Assessment is
continuous with a record of progress being
transmitted to the youngster's kindergarten teacher
and parent at the close of the school year.
Parents are actively involved in this
pre-kindergarten program. Weekly newsletters are
written by the teachers to promote an ongoing link
between the home and the school. Learning packets
are developed by the Pre-Kindergarten staff to
encourage parents to reinforce concepts taught in
the classroom setting.
