#501 - Accounting I

Accounting I is a course for those students who intend to enter the business field. Instruction will focus on debit and credit rules, interpretation of accounting records and financial reports, banking, and the preparation of worksheets and special journals. Students will also apply basic accounting principles using computer software in a Windows environment to perform automated accounting procedures. Instruction includes a long-term simulation of managing accounts for a partnership.

Prerequisite: Accounting I or Accounting (College Prep)

Accounting II begins with a review of the concepts and procedures covered in either Accounting I or College Prep Accounting. Advanced accounting principles involving accounts receivable, payables, payroll notes, inventories, worksheets, adjustments, and financial statements will be covered. Partnership and corporate procedures also will be studied. A long-term simulation of managing corporate accounts is included. Students will use computers to complete a variety of spreadsheet application problems using Excel software in a Windows environment.

#503 - Accounting (College Prep)

This introductory college-level course provides a thorough introduction to the fundamentals of Accounting. Major areas of financial accounting are presented. Students who plan to pursue the Accounting and/or Business Administration professions will gain an essential foundation for additional study at the post-secondary level.

#511 - Professional & Academic Word Processing

Students learn to use word processing software for business, personal, and college work. Topics include: keyboarding and editing; proofing and revising; formatting characters, paragraphs, tables, and pages; creating an index and table of contents. Students will have the opportunity to improve their keyboard proficiency. Hands-on applications such as composing letters, creating reports, and producing business documents will be emphasized. (Recommended prior course, or equivalent: Technology & Study Skills, for students who did not attend SP-F Public Schools in Grade 8).

#513 - Information Processing

Information Processing provides the students with the opportunity to extend their knowledge and skill in using personal computer software, especially in business environments. Students carry out projects that require the use of word processing and spreadsheet software. The emphasis is on techniques for managing business information and preparing it for presentation. Students carry out mail merging and prepare documents with embedded graphics using software in a Windows environment.

#516 - Multimedia Presentations

This is a semester course for any student interested in utilizing PowerPoint in a Windows environment. This course is designed for the student to learn Microsoft Office's advanced features and computer presentations. This course will provide students with hands-on applications preparing desktop publishing and presentation of graphics programs.

Combine source materials from Word, Excel, into PowerPoint presentations.

Create desktop publishing documents for business use.

Prerequisite for Principles of Marketing II: Principles of Marketing I

Principles of Marketing I and II provide classroom instruction in areas such as selling, business organization, entrepreneurship, economics, salesmanship, advertising, human relations, communications, and leadership training. The class work in these two courses parallels that of Marketing I and Marketing II. Students who elect these courses will be expected to make their best effort to participate in DECA.

#574 - Business Law

Business Law is designed to cover the principles of law relating largely to business transactions. Primary emphasis is on contracts, the sale of goods, loans, insurance, partnerships, corporations, and related law. The objective is to develop a well-informed person who will understand more clearly the personal duties and obligations involved in business situations.

#575 - Consumer Finance

Consumer Finance deals with the economic realities most students will face. Students study money management as it pertains to paying for college, creating a working budget, managing automobile ownership costs, managing credit, saving, and investing. The financial issues related to employment are considered. Students will utilize personal computer applications for money management and for managing investments in stocks, bonds, and real estate.

#578 - Intro to Marketing and Business

The main objective of the course is to enable students to explore career opportunities in the fields of Business Management and Marketing. The course is designed for all students who wish to gain an introduction to the world of business. Subject content matter includes: career opportunities, job entry tasks (application form, resume, and job interview), the consumer market, the marketing concept, management principles, personal selling, sales promotion, communications, and math skills needed in the business world.
