Students in grades 6, 7, and 8 will participate
in an advisory activity program one day per week.
The purpose of the program is to offer students
enrichment opportunities while simultaneously
providing students and teachers a structure in
which to forge close relationships.
TEAM BUILDING
(All
Grades)
Students in grades 6, 7, and 8
will periodically participate in various
teambuilding activities. The activities are
structured so that students collaborate,
problem-solve, exercise interpersonal skills,
establish trust, demonstrate respect for others,
and build relationships. At times, the
teambuilding activities will include groups of
students from all grade levels working together
toward a common goal.
GRADE 6
Students will participate in
activities focused on character education and
creative inventions. Through the use of illustrated
novels students will read about characters that
encounter typical adolescent
situations. Students will problem-solve to
address the topics of trustworthiness, caring,
respect, citizenship, fairness, and
responsibility.
Additionally, students will
learn about and create an invention of their choice
following a specific guideline. Students will
have three choices in which to model their
invention: Rube Goldberg, From
Trash-to-Treasure, and/or Logic Games and Brain
Teasers. Students will then present their
creations to their peers.
GRADE 7
Students will participate in a
Pay Day Project. This activity offers
students a valuable personal connection between
learning and making decisions while setting goals
related to career choices. Students will
investigate possibilities for career choices.
Through this yearlong journey students will examine
consumer purchasing habits, self-reflect, complete
interest surveys, create logos and slogans,
establish mock corporations, and give
presentations. Students will acquire interview
skills and participate in a common culminating
activity.
GRADE
8
Students will participate in a
College Exploration Project. This
activity offers students a valuable personal
connection between learning and the college
planning process. Students will explore dreams
and goals for their life's pursuits. Students
will examine choices they must make in order to
have a successful path toward college. Through this
yearlong journey students will engage in a series
of activities such as an online interest survey, a
roundtable discussion with current high school
seniors, Internet research of careers, virtual
tours of colleges and course offerings, the common
college application process, and a common
culminating activity. Students will be
required to journal their experiences and create a
portfolio.
