Welcome to the 5th Grade Intro, a page designed to answer frequently asked questions that incoming fifth grade students have. If you cannot find the answer to your question below, please call the school or ask a staff member for help.

What classes will I have?

Fifth grade students have reading, language arts, and math in the morning. Fifth graders also have art, music, gym, health, science, social studies, and world language. These afternoon classes take place on different days. Science is the only class fifth graders switch for. The switching helps fifth graders get ready for changing classes each period in sixth grade when they are assigned to academic teams.

Do I have a locker for my books and coat?

Fifth grade students will be assigned hallway lockers during summer orientation. Students will need a lock for their locker. Key locks are permitted but discouraged. Students with combinations are to keep the combination in a safe place and not share it with anyone. Students will be able to go to their locker four times per day, once before school, before lunch, after lunch, and at dismissal. Students keep coats, books, binders, and other school materials in their lockers.

How does the day start?

Homebase is the first place fifth grade students will go to after their lockers. Attendance will be taken, and the students will salute the flag. Then students will hear the morning announcements. The announcements include important school news. One of the best parts of the announcements is Birthday Corner. For $1.00, students can send their friends a birthday message over the loudspeaker.

Will I be able to use the computers at Terrill?

There are three desktop computers in every fifth grade class, and laptops that come on carts are sometimes used for typing in class.

How do I take out a book or get information for a project?

The media center is on the first floor of Terrill. This is where you can check out books to read and get information. Fifth grade students can use the media center before school from 7:55am until the beginning of first period or after school until 2:55pm. Never hesitate to ask the media specialist for help .

How long is lunch?

Lunch is one hour during which fifth grade students each lunch in two different groups. While one group has lunch in the multipurpose room, the oher has recess. Recess is outside on the blacktop unless there is inclement weather. When there is indoor recess, the multipurpose room is divided into two sections so the group with recess can play board games and watch movies.

Is there a lost and found?

There are four lost and found locations at Terrill. One is on the ramp before the entrance to the fifth grade multipurpose room. Each locker room has a lost and found location as does the main office. The main office lost and found is for valuables only.
