ABOUT THE PRINCIPAL
Dr. Bortnick has been the Principal at Brunner School since the 2009-2010 school year. Prior to being the Principal at Brunner School, Dr. Bortnick served as the District Supervisor of Science for three years. Prior to coming to Scotch Plains-Fanwood School District, Dr. Bortnick taught high school science in Randolph Public Schools and the Morris Hills Regional School District for 10 years. Dr. Bortnick has a Bachelor of Science degree from Rutgers University, a Masters degree in Teaching from Marygrove College, a Masters degree in Education Administration from Caldwell University, and has most recently earned his Doctoral degree at Rutgers University. Dr. Bortnick is married to his wife, Carla, and together they raise their two sons, Emmett and Silas and all four care for their two dogs, Charlie and Milo.

Welcome to Howard B Brunner Elementary School!The Brunner School community is committed to equity and empowering students to achieve their goals through collaboration, flexibility and creativity.Upon entering the building you will immediately feel the warmth of the culture and climate that permeates the entire campus. Students’ work is proudly and prominently displayed through out the building and reflects the academically rigorous curriculum with which our students engage on a daily basis. The staff of Brunner Elementary develops and implements lessons which provide engaging educational experience for students as well as support and encouragement for all learners. The Brunner PTA is a wonderfully active and positive organization that, through fundraising and volunteering, provides many enriching activities for our students and support for our staff.Brunner Elementary School truly is the home of great kids, dedicated teachers and staff, and caring parents!
