Course Name: Painting II

Painting II is an advanced course that allows greater freedom than Painting I. In Painting II students will focus on a series of works that they develop on their own. Each student is encouraged to produce a series of paintings that is important and meaningful to them.
Prerequisite: Drawing I, Painting I
Course Proficiencies: The following is a list of the proficiencies which students are expected to know and be able to do as a result of successfully completing this course.
The proficiencies are the basis of the assessment of student achievement. The learner will demonstrate the ability to:
- Students will create through sketches and research a personal statement or philosophy that is expressed through image, technique, or materials. 1.3.12.D.3
- Understand that through works of art, artist respond to society and culture. Painting is an important tool for the individual to address issues that concern them and that cannot be expressed through other subjects and mediums. 1.3.12.D.5 1.2.12.A.1 and 9.2
- Each student will be required to participate in group presentations and critiques of their works. Students will learn how to give positive feedback and critique of each other’s ideas, process, and final product. Students are encouraged to consider opposing viewpoints in developing their work. 11.3.12.D.2
- Students are required to keep a sketchbook of drawings, doodles, and found images. 1.3.12.D.3
- Organize an exhibit of personal works of visual art that convey a high level of understanding of how the expression of ideas relates to the art media, art mediums, and techniques used, as well as career opportunities in the arts 1.3.12.D.3, 9.2, 9.3
