Referendum Updates

Students were welcomed into a new wing of Evergreen Elementary School for the 2024-25 school year.

Voters approved the Scotch Plains-Fanwood Public Schools bond referendum on January 28, 2025. The SPF administration and Board of Education appreciate every voter who cast their ballot in this special election. These improvements will shape our schools and communities for years to come.

Check back soon for updates on the referendum progress! We’ll add details about the bidding and construction process on this page.

Scotch Plains-Fanwood voters approved a plan to:

  • Fund critical upgrades to HVAC, electrical, and fire alarm systems, as well as universal air conditioning across all schools.
  • Purchase the La Grande Building in Fanwood to free up nine classrooms across the elementary schools and ease space constraints; all pre-kindergarten classes will be relocated to this building once renovations are completed.
  • Fund the annual costs of the La Grande Building, including salaries and benefits for staff.

This plan allowed the district to access $11.4 million in state aid to offset the local tax impact. The owner of a home assessed at Scotch Plains’ average can expect to pay approximately $24/month, while the owner of a home assessed at Fanwood’s average can expect to pay approximately $21/month for these improvements.
