Scotch Plains-Fanwood, NJ – The Scotch Plains-Fanwood Board of Education is proud to announce the appointment of Jason Benedict as its newest board member. A longtime Fanwood resident, father, and active community member, Benedict brings both professional expertise and a commitment to education.

“As a parent, a higher education professional with operational responsibilities in cybersecurity, and a lifelong learner, I’ve always believed that schools are the cornerstone of any thriving community,” said Benedict. “With my professional experience and passion for the success of our district’s students, I felt a responsibility to give back to my community through the Board of Education.”

Benedict’s goals as a board member include championing student success by fostering strong learning environments, supporting teachers with professional development, and ensuring the Board of Education functions with transparency, accountability, and trust.

“Our district is already strong, and I want to help it become exceptional,” he said. “That means aligning resources with student needs, listening openly, and acting decisively.”

Benedict and his wife have lived in Fanwood for nearly 20 years, and a lot of their family and friends also live in Scotch-Plains and Fanwood. They have a son, who is a rising junior at Scotch-Plains Fanwood High School.

Benedict is currently the Associate Vice President for IT and Global Chief Information Security Officer at Fordham University. He holds a bachelor's degree in business and information technology and a master’s degree in cybersecurity, both from Fordham University. He also holds an associate’s degree in accounting from Kingsborough Community College.

When Bendict is not working, he enjoys watching his son’s sporting events, doing community service, taking his fully restored 1985 Cadillac Eldorado convertible to car shows and judging BBQ food contests.

“I'm humbled and extremely grateful for this opportunity and look forward to working with the entire SPF community to keep our schools strong, future-ready, and rooted in the values that make Scotch Plains-Fanwood such a special place,” said Benedict. “We absolutely love being part of this community and I look forward to continuing our family’s commitment to public service in any way we can.”
