Scotch Plains-Fanwood Board of Education seeks applicants to fill Board vacancy for Fanwood 

Scotch Plains-Fanwood, NJ – The Scotch Plains-Fanwood Board of Education is seeking a new board member to fill a vacancy following the resignation of Amy Winkler, effective June 1, 2025. This qualified applicant from Fanwood would serve until the next annual school election in November 2025.  

Eligibility Requirements:  

To be considered, applicants must: 

• Be a citizen of the United States 

• Be a resident of Fanwood, NJ for at least one year preceding the appointment 

• Be able to read and write 

• Be registered to vote in the district 

• Not be disqualified from serving due to conviction of certain crimes 

• Meet other requirements as set forth in N.J.S.A. 18A:12-1 and other applicable laws 

Qualified residents interested in being considered for this appointment must submit a letter of interest and resume by 3 p.m. Friday, June 6, 2025 to Board Secretary Christopher Jones (313 South Ave, Suite 200, Fanwood, NJ 07023; cjones@spfk12.org). The letter should outline the candidate's qualifications, reasons for seeking appointment and what they believe they would contribute to the district. 

Formal interviews for the open position will be conducted in public session during the June 17 Board of Education meeting located in the Media Center of Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School. Following interviews, existing board members will deliberate, and a candidate will be selected and approved during the same meeting. 

Those interested in seeking a 3-year term in November must obtain 25 signatures of qualified voters living in the district, one of which may be your own, to be included on the ballot. Interested individuals can gather support for candidacy by communicating their goals and aims for the schools to the electorate. The election will be held on Nov. 4.
