The Scotch Plains-Fanwood Board of Education will have two 3-year terms open for Scotch Plains and one 3-year term open for Fanwood in the November 2026 Annual School Election.

The Scotch Plains-Fanwood School District has announced it has information available for citizens interested in running for a vacant seat on the board of education.

The Scotch Plains-Fanwood Board of Education will have two 3-year terms open for Scotch Plains and one 3-year term open for Fanwood in the November 2026 Annual School Election, Mr. Jones, spokesperson for the school board, announced today.

Candidates must file a nominating petition with the Office of the Union County Clerk, Election Division, located at 2 Broad Street, Room 113 in Elizabeth to get their name on the ballot for the Annual School Election. The current deadline to submit the nominating petition is Monday, July 27, 2026 before 4:00 pm. The election is scheduled for Tuesday, November 3, 2026.

Prospective school board candidates can download candidate information from the New Jersey School Boards Association’s website at https://www.njsba.org/about/membership/membership-school-board-members/school-board-candidacy/. The School Board Candidate Kit includes information about nominating petitions, legal qualifications for school board candidacy, and the role of the school board member. Information about the New Jersey School Ethics Act and important dates in the school election process are also included.

On March 31, 2014, a temporary injunction was issued and summarized as follows:

  • the circulator for nomination petitions is not required to be a registered voter or resident of the jurisdiction, however, such circulator is required to be “voter eligible”, meaning he or she satisfies the age, citizenship and in-state residency requirements.
