School Counselors

Our district devotes considerable resources to help our students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Among these resources are our school counselors, who are available in all of our schools. They are vital members of our student support team. School counselors design and deliver school counseling programs that improve student outcomes. They work to maximize student success, promoting access and equity for all students. They create a school culture of success for all.
At the Elementary Schools, our school counselors are called Student Assistance Specialists. They play an integral role in maintaining a positive school culture and climate, working with all students and staff. The student assistance specialists provide brief, solution-focused counseling and assist with the referral process. If you have concerns about a student, please contact the student's teacher or the building principal to access the resources available to the child. If the student has an IEP, please contact the assigned Child Study Team member for further assistance.

At our Middle Schools, there are counselors assigned to students based on their grade level.  The Terrill counseling page can be found here.  You can reach the Nettingham counseling page by clicking on this link.

At the High School, there are several counselors assigned to students based on the first letter of their last name.  Click to be taken to the SPFHS Counseling Page. In addition to the school counselors, we have a student assistance/substance awareness specialist available to work with students on a variety of mental health concerns and support families in the referral process for outside mental health or substance abuse services.

All of our school counselors act in the role of anti-bullying specialists to work with students who are involved in harassment, bullying, or intimidation incidents. Scotch Plains - Fanwood Schools has a zero tolerance and works with all students to prevent and address unwanted behavior.
