• Dismissal Procedures 2018/2019

The safety of our students at dismissal time is an important concern to the School One staff, and is taken very seriously.  Each of our teachers escorts their students to the assigned doors for dismissal at 3:10 p.m., and ensures, to the best of their ability, that every one of their students has departed school safely and is proceeding home in the manner requested by their students' parents.

To make our staff aware of your child's normal dismissal routine, please complete the attached form by CLICKING HERE.  Once completed, the form should be returned to the Main Office.  If arrangements for your child's dismissal from school changes over the course of the year, please complete another form and return it to school.

So that our teachers may effectively and efficiently dismiss their students, we ask parents to please stand a reasonable distance, approximately 15 feet, away from the door exits.

If for any reason a student is not going home according their regular routine, a WRITTEN NOTE must be sent to their child's teacher. Without a written note, or notification from the parent, the student will be sent to the office and not released until the parent is contacted.

If an emergency arises and you or your designe cannot pick up your child after school, it is suggested that you contact the people indicated on the blue emergency card AND then notify the school office so your child and your child's teacher can be informed.  However, we do ask that parents:
    1. make the necessary arrangements for their child's dismissal from school in the morning BEFORE their child leaves for school; and
    2. send a written note outlining these arrangements to their child's teacher.
Students walking home from school are reminded to use sidewalk areas and to practice appropriate safety precautions.  It is important that they cross intersections where the Scotch Plains-Fanwood crossing guards are stationed.  Crossing guards are on duty from 2:15 to 3:45 p.m. at the following intersections:
    • Park Avenue and East Second Street
    • East Second Street and Willow Avenue
    • Madison and Willow Avenues
    • Midway and Willow Avenues
