Welcome Back!
Dear Families,
I hope that you all are having a wonderful summer! I am looking forward to getting to know your child and having a great year together! Although this year will look a little different than previous years, I assure you it will be filled with lots of learning, fun and new friends, and a positive educational experience!
My name is Ms. Suzanne Hernandez and this will be my 22nd year of teaching. I have spent the majority of my years teaching 2nd grade, but have also taught Kindergarten, 1st grade, 4th grade, and Basic Skills. I stated my teaching career at Coles School, spent one year at Brunner School, and have been at McGinn for over 10 years. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education and a Master’s Degree in Elementary Instruction and Curriculum. I am originally from Scotch Plains and currently live in Fanwood. I have a 12 year old daughter and a 15 year old son.
While back to school shopping, please pick up the items indicated on the second grade supply list. As indicated on the supply list, some of those items are for the students to keep in their pencil boxes. When we return to school in-person, the students will be bringing their pencil boxes and back and forth to school each day. For now, please help your child keep the pencil box supplies readily available in their home workspace. This should help make things easier during virtual learning. In addition, please put the following coins in a ziploc bag and have them available for your child to use for math at home: 8 quarters, 10 dimes, 10 nickels, and 20 pennies.
Some things your child can look forward to this year are, watching plants and insects grow, learning about communities, and lots of new math skills. We will read many wonderful books and do lots of writing. Second grade is so much fun and I can’t wait to take the journey with your child! There will be a lot of new information to learn, and we will make many discoveries together.
Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation. If you have any questions or concerns at any time, please feel free to email me at shernandez@spfk12.org. I am looking forward to working with your child this year, I know it’s going to be a great one! J
Sincerely,
Ms. Suzanne Hernandez
