Dear Parents,

I hope that you and your family are having a safe and happy summer. I am looking forward to getting to know your child and having a great experience together! Although virtual learning will cause the start of this school year to be different in many ways from previous years, I am confident that it will be filled with learning, fun, and positive educational and social outcomes.

I have been teaching at McGinn for over fifteen years, with the majority of
those years spent in second grade. I look forward to using my previous experience in second grade, as well as my experience teaching on other grade levels, to help make the 2020-2021 school year memorable for your child.

While back to school shopping, please pick up the items indicated on the second grade supply list. As indicated on the supply list, some of those items are for the students to keep in their pencil boxes. When we return to McGinn, the students will be bringing their pencil boxes and back and forth to school each day. For now, I would suggest the children keep the “pencil box supplies” easily accessible near their home workspace to assist with virtual learning. In addition, please put the following coins in a ziploc bag and have them available for your child to use for math at home: 8 quarters, 10 dimes, 10 nickels, and 20 pennies.

When we return to in person instruction, snack procedures will be communicated to you. During virtual at home instruction, time will be allotted for a mid-morning snack. Also, the class will discuss Digital Citizenship to help reinforce the online behavior expectations that will help them to learn and be safe.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation. If you have any questions or concerns now or throughout the year, please feel free to email me at I am very pleased to be working with your child this year, and I am looking forward to working together to help your child have a successful year in second grade.
