- Important Senior Dates to Remember

This letter is to inform you of the plans that have been formulated for the Class of 2023 year-end activities and The Commencement Program.
The Senior Outdoor Movie Night on Tuesday, May 23rd will be held at 7:30pm at The Shady Rest in Scotch Plains. More details will follow from the Senior Student Council and the PTA
The Senior Music Awards will be held in the high school auditorium on May 30th. The program starts at 7:30 pm. Additional details will be communicated to the families of seniors involved with the Music Program.The Senior Scholarship Program will be on Wednesday, May 31st at 7:00 pm. Student recipients of scholarships and various academic achievements are honored by the members of the Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School Administration, along with various Scotch Plains and Fanwood community groups. Students receiving scholarships will receive an invitation.
Wednesday, June 7, from 2:30-3:45 pm has been reserved for seniors to pick up their ordered copy of the 2023 Culmen, the school yearbook. Students should follow the directions as provided by the Culmen staff and lineup outside of Door #9, located outside of the cafeteria.Tuesday, June 13th, Seniors will receive their cap, gown and graduation announcements after school. Seniors must have completed the survey on Naviance to receive their cap and gowns.
The Senior Picnic takes place on Wednesday, June 14 during the school day. Seniors will report to the main gymnasium at approximately 10:30am The picnic will take place after the events planned in the gymnasium. The time for students to attend will be communicated as we get closer to June 14th . This PTA sponsored event is held on school grounds and includes plenty of food, music, and an opportunity to safely socialize. Seniors will be permitted to leave school at the conclusion of the picnic. At this time, students will have the opportunity to pick up their previously ordered cap and gown packages. Any cap & gown package not picked up will be held in the Main Office. Office hours are 8:00 am-4:00 pm.
On Friday, June 16, the Senior Prom will take place at The Imperia in Somerset from 6:30 pm to 11:30 pm. Students attending the prom must arrive to school on time and take the final exam scheduled for that day. Please note that study halls will not meet during final exams.. The prom is a school-sponsored event where all Board of Education rules, policies and regulations are strictly enforced. Students received this information and a contract when the prom bids were purchased. Students must arrive to the prom by 7:30 pm and will be permitted to leave beginning at 10:30 pm. Once a student leaves the prom, he/she will not be permitted to return.For all school-sponsored events, smoking or drinking of alcoholic beverages is prohibited. Any student who comes to any school-sponsored event under the influence of any illegal substance will be excluded, and a parent, along with the police, will be contacted immediately. Such infractions will result in a student forfeiting their right to participate in the commencement exercises.
On Wednesday, June 20, Senior Sunset, Thesenior student council will be holding the senior sunset activity. More information will be provided by them as the event approaches.
Students are reminded to complete their destination survey on Naviance and clear any transcript fees before they can receive their cap and gown packages. If you have any questions, email your counselor or see Mrs. Carvalho in the Counseling Office.
Seniors are reminded to fulfill all financial and other obligations by June 20th. Diplomas will be held until all school obligations are cleared. Students have received notices from the Media Center and coaches to alert them of these outstanding obligations.
We will collect ipads, covers and chargers at commencement rehearsal on Wednesday, June 21st at 9am in the main gymnasium. Seniors must bring these items with them to the rehearsal.
Commencement will begin promptly at 6:00 pm on June 21, and take place at the Perry Tyson Athletic Stadium. The graduates will be required to arrive at 5:15 pm and report to their assigned classroom to prepare for the processional (walking up to the stadium). The classroom details and assignments will be communicated at commencement rehearsal. Thursday, June 22 at 11:00 am has been slated as the alternate date for graduation in the event of inclement weather.
Each member of the graduating class will receive a packet of graduation announcements (5). If there are members of your family or guests attending the commencement program that are in need of special seating due to a physical handicap, please be aware that seats are available trackside, and golf carts will be available to shuttle anyone having difficulty walking up the hill to the stadium. Additional details will be provided as we get closer to June 21.It is our desire to arrange a dignified ceremony for an admirable group of young people who have completed their secondary education. It is an absolute requirement that your student dress properly for the ceremony. Students are to dress in their cap and gown. Jeans, shorts, flip-flops, sneakers and slippers are not permitted under the gown.
Rehearsal for graduation is scheduled for 9:00 am on Wednesday, June 21. It is imperative that each graduating student is present. Students will not be attending classes on June 21th. As indicated, they should arrive by 9:00 am to their assigned row (to be communicated later). The graduates do not need to wear their cap/gown for rehearsal. Students failing to attend rehearsal will not be permitted to participate in the commencement ceremony. Students will be dismissed once rehearsal is completed. If your student chooses NOT to participate in the commencement exercises, please submit an email to my secretary, Mrs. Kelly May at: kmay@spfk12.org by Thursday, June 8.
Student diplomas will be mailed home. If the diploma is not received by July 7, 2023, please contact the Main Office. In addition, all final transcripts will be forwarded to the student’s school designated on the Naviance Graduation Survey by mid-July. It may take some time for the college to process and designate the transcript as received. Your patience in this matter is greatly appreciated.
The closing bulletin with the many events for the Class of 2023 was emailed to senior students and is made available online for your information. If there are any updates as graduation approaches, the information will be communicated to you through the school website, email, or through the high school telephone messaging system.
